Our Mission

EWEDEO: the Edig Wide Education and Development Expansion Organisation: is a community-based CSO rooted in the Edig community of Ethiopia. We bring together Edig people, including diaspora members, around seven core commitments.

→Encouraging community members of education age to pursue school rather than starting work early.
→Identifying students who have dropped out through research, then providing material and support to help them continue.
→Giving everyone in the community: regardless of age: access to basic education.
→Recognising and awarding community members who have graduated and scored high marks from primary through higher education: our longest-running tradition, spanning decades.
→Collaborating with local government to rehabilitate ageing or damaged schools and provide material and monetary support.
→Working with government to dig water wells and address water scarcity in the rural areas where our community lives.
→Collaborating with government to build and restore roads connecting rural Edig communities to urban areas.

Formally registered as a CSO on May 23, 2022, EWEDEO gives lasting structure to the community-driven work our members have sustained for over two decades.
